Get involved in university life - MMUnion
MMUnion is one of the largest student organisations in the UK, representing the rights and interests of our 34,000 students. The Students’ Union is led by a team of students who are elected by you and your fellow students. Once you have enrolled at the University, you automatically become a member of the MMUnion and have access to a range of services and facilities.
Sports and societies
If you already participate in sport or you would like to try new sports or activities, there are more than 100 clubs and societies to showcase your talents. Many of our teams compete in official leagues against teams from other UK universities and colleges. Whatever your ability, anyone can join and tuition is often available.
You are never alone at MMU!
MMUnion has one of the leading student advice centres in the UK, offering free and confidential help with critical issues such as funding and personal finance, academic disputes and accommodation, as well as personal issues.
The Manchester Union is also home to a shop, a café, the MetBar and a nightclub.
Our Cheshire Union building has two student officers, a café, a restaurant and StudentZone, a venue for party nights, social events and much more.

The International Society
International students from all the universities and colleges in Manchester come together in one International Society that:
• hosts regular social events
• arranges community-based projects
• organises trips to other UK cities, such as Stratford-upon-Avon, or places of interest, such as the Lake District
• is free to join and membership entitles you to discounted international flights
• representing 150 different countries, so you’re sure to make new friends

As an international student, you will have a lot to think about before moving to the UK. But if you are heading to MMU, you will not have the added worry of finding somewhere suitable to live.
At MMU, we aim to accommodate all full-time EU and international students a place in our university residences in their first year, whether you are studying at our Manchester campus or our Cheshire campus.
Then, throughout your course, we will help you find a place that suits you – either with a host family, with other people in a shared, privately rented house or your own self-catering apartment.
Don’t worry, there is plenty of accommodation in and around Manchester and Cheshire for everyone – but we suggest you apply early.

Public transport in the UK is generally reliable and usually of a reasonably high standard.
Most travel companies offer student discounts, so remember to carry your student ID card with you to qualify.
If you’re using a service every day, it makes sense to buy a weekly, termly or annual travel card, as this will be considerably cheaper than paying full fare each time you travel.

Travelling around Manchester
All of our campuses and student accommodation are well-served by bus routes. Buses run regularly, every few minutes on a variety of routes, so getting around the city is quick and easy.
You pay the driver when you get on, and you’ll usually get a lower price if you show your library or student ID card.
You can buy bus passes in shops around the city, and we have Stagecoach annual and term passes on sale in the Student Union at All Saints Campus.
